Have you ever wondered why a movie studio would spend millions of dollars on producing a mediocre film these days?  The producer of the film managed to sell his pitch to a person or group (usually a studio) who financed his film project.   A producer’s knowledge about the movie market may make the difference between a film being shown in theaters and a script still on the shelf.  Even if a movie is shot, the producer still has to work toward marketing and selling the film to distributors so its played in movie theaters.  The life of the movie depends on marketing talents of the producer.  So many badly written or directed films are able to be distributed do to the hype a movie producer creates for it.

The rise of digital technology have created a new marketplace for digital production. The niche of digital media on the internet have created many opportunities for new independent filmmakers that would normally be ignored in the classic Hollywood studio system. The internet has also redefined methods in which filmmakers deal with the development, marketing, and distribution aspects of movie production.
